Car Lockout Service: preparing for the visit
You dropped the duffel bag in the trunk, closed the lid with your elbow, and heard the keys land inside a heartbeat too late.

You dropped the duffel bag in the trunk, closed the lid with your elbow, and heard the keys land inside a heartbeat too late. The cabin is locked as well, and the only way into that trunk seems to be a key you can see nowhere.
Worth answering before the call
Is the car showing any signs of life, such as interior lights or a horn? Where are the keys right now: inside, in the trunk, lost, broken or in a fob that has stopped working? Exactly where is the car parked, and how does a van reach it?
My wallet, permit and everything else are locked inside. What then?
That is the ordinary case, and there is a routine for it. Tell the locksmith on the phone so the plan is agreed in advance. Often the plate can be matched to a photo of the permit on your phone, a family member can bring identification, or a fleet manager can confirm a company vehicle. Otherwise the door is opened and the documents in the glovebox are checked against your identification before the locksmith leaves.
The key broke off in the door lock. Is that still a lockout call?
Yes, with one extra step. The broken piece is drawn out with extraction tools that grip it and pull straight, never pushed deeper, and then the door is opened normally. The cylinder is checked for worn wafers or salt and cleaned or lubricated, and the key itself is inspected too, since bending, wear or fatigue can snap a key even in a healthy cylinder. A new blade is cut from the two halves or from the code, because a worn copy would break again.
