A locksmith you can talk to

When a call is about upgrading locks, our first questions are about the doors rather than the products: how many there are, what they are made of, whether there is glass beside the lock, who holds keys today and what the rooms behind them hold. Those answers tell us which cylinder formats and which level of key control to bring, so the visit ends with a plan rather than a brochure.

Shop rules

A locksmith you would recommend to a neighbour.

  1. A look before a verdict. We inspect the door, frame and lock before suggesting anything. Diagnosing from the driveway is how people end up with parts they did not need.
  2. Two or three real choices. Where there are sensible alternatives we explain them side by side, including the option of doing less than you expected.
  3. The job finished properly. Tested, aligned, cleaned up and demonstrated. We do not consider a lock done until you have turned the key yourself.
  4. Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Call us about stronger locks.

What we do

A lock is a small part with a big job, and the same is true of the work around it. Whether you need a door opened, a new key made or a whole building put on one system, the pages below explain what each service involves and when it makes sense.

Change or Rekey Locks

Renting a room, sharing with housemates or hosting a lodger raises the question of who can open which door.

Small things.
Big difference.

The key you reach for. The door you come home to. Good locksmith work begins with understanding how you use them.

High Security Locks

Safes are high security for the things inside a room rather than the room itself. We install, bolt down, open and reset them for homes and businesses, and advise on where a safe helps and where a better door helps more.

    High Security Locks

After the attempted break-in the police officer pointed at your door and said the strike plate was held by two short screws. Nobody got in, but you have looked at that door differently every evening since.

    Lock Replacement & Upgrade

The brass handleset has gone blotchy and green where the winter salt reaches it, and the coating on the deadbolt is lifting in flakes. It still locks, but it looks tired beside the fresh paint on the door.

    Deadbolt Installation

You moved in three weeks ago. The previous owner left a handful of keys, none labelled, and the bolt on the side door rattles in its housing.

You came home to find the front door standing open. The deadbolt is still thrown, but the strike plate is dangling from one screw and a fist-sized piece of the jamb is lying on the hall floor.

Tap a situation. The answer opens here.

If Someone forced the door and the frame is split.

Then Frame repair, a new strike and a fresh cylinder.

The wood is rebuilt before new hardware goes in, so the door locks tonight.

Then Rekey every lock those keys operate.

Anything those keys open needs new pins: house, garage and shed, and a taken car key should be deprogrammed. Lock Rekeying

  1. Illustration: a phone ringing on a dark shop counter, a photo of the front door arriving beside it

    Step 1 of 5

    Call and describe the door

Describe the property, the hardware and what has changed, and the visit starts from what you have seen.

  2. Illustration: a white work van with its headlights on, driving a lit street at night

    Step 2 of 5

    On our way

Together we list the doors, then decide who should open everything, who should open a floor and who should open one room. That structure becomes the keying chart.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 8 in 100 homes · newer homes
  • About 8% of homes in Vaughan were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census. In newer developments the hardware is often the same finish and style from house to house. A locksmith can offer upgrades that match what is already there, so a stronger cylinder or a new lever set fits in without looking like an afterthought.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 63% of homes in Vaughan (2021 Census).Detached homes are exposed to weather on every side, so exterior locks see rain, salt and freezing air directly. Choosing hardware with a good finish and a cylinder that tolerates cold, then lubricating it properly, keeps every door turning through winter.

Let's clear a few things up

What about the mailbox key?

It depends on whose mailbox it is. A private box at your door or on your post is yours, and its small cylinder can be rekeyed or replaced in the same visit. A compartment in a community mailbox or an apartment mailroom belongs to the postal service or the building, which handles lost-key lock changes through its own process. The locksmith will tell you which you have and who to call.

Can a rekey be done in winter, and will the locks freeze afterwards?

Winter is a normal time for this work. Cylinders come off the door and are pinned in the van, out of the wind, and go back on with a dry graphite or PTFE lubricant that sheds moisture rather than holding it the way oil does. A cleaned, dry-lubricated cylinder is less likely to freeze than the gritty one it replaced. Keeping a storm door closed over the main lock helps through freeze-thaw weeks.

What is a restricted keyway, and is it worth having?

A restricted keyway uses a controlled key profile whose blanks are supplied only through an authorised channel; the credential required, a letter, a registered account, a dealer agreement or a key card, depends on the system. Rekeying such a cylinder is routine work with the right pin kit. For a household that has just lost a key and wants the next one to be truly countable, it is a sensible upgrade for the main doors, and it can be fitted during the same visit.

How long does the installation take?

A cylinder swap with new keys on one door is a short visit. A new deadbolt, reinforced strike and frame repair takes longer, and several doors keyed to a plan take longer again, mostly in bench time pinning cylinders. The locksmith gives you a realistic estimate once the doors have been looked at, because the frame condition and the door preparation matter more than the count of locks alone.
